Episode 148: The Talons of the Emperor
In lieu of discussing the impossible-to-buy Shadow War: Armageddon box, it’s time to talk about the last bit of the Gathering Storm product line – the Talons of the Emperor. The Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence return from a 10,000 year absence to the battlefields of the 41st Millenium. What do the Emperor’s personal guard and the ultimate psychic nulls bring to the tabletop? Can you really do much with so few options – only 7 units between 2 codexes? Can Kevin build an army using them with only his spare models in Arizona? We talk about all that and more, including the latest releases, our hobby progress, and your listener mail!

How does your thrown together custodes list beat riptide spam?
It an uphill battle against anything with good AP2 shooting.
You have to get the riptide into melee, where Bobby G, and Custodes with S6 AP2 guardian spears will make short work of them.
It’s by no means a take all comers list or a top, top tier tourney list, but I think its pretty solid against most things; and it really shows off how you can use Guilliman and Celestine even if you don’t play the specific factions.
Regarding the Shadow War release, I totally get the conspiracy theoryhammer, but simply looking back at the previous boxed games kind of puts it all into perspective. Like Necromunda, people pined for Warhammer Quest (see also Space Hulk) for decades and yet, post re-release, those boxes sit unmoving in stores all over. So I can totally believe that they simply misjudged this one.
Anyway I gotta say I can’t wait to hear you guys eventually cover the Shadow War stuff, nice to hear Richard again too.
